About CELCIS

CELCIS, based at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, is committed to making positive and lasting improvements in the wellbeing of children and young people who are at risk of, or are already, living in alternative care.

Taking a multi-agency, collaborative approach towards making lasting change, we work alongside leaders, managers and practitioners right across the globe. We promote and share evidence of promising practice and help lead the way in changing and challenging both thinking and ways of working - always ensuring the rights and interests of children at the heart of everything we do.

Our international work and engagement is a two-way process - to support and contribute to the development of policy and practice in an international context, and to bring overseas perspectives, research and experience into Scotland.
We welcome the opportunity to work collaboratively with international partners on new projects.

Our knowledge

We have specialised academic and child welfare expertise and combine research, policy and practice in these areas. We are a resource for those:

  • Involved in policy making - such as government civil servants
  • Involved in regulation - such as inspectorates and monitoring bodies
  • Involved in service development such as NGOs and local government providers of residential and foster care
  • Individuals concerned about their own development and curious about what they can learn from Scotland and CELCIS
